Join the discussion: Combining PassivHaus and Electrification for Sustainable Buildings

As an organisation that champions reducing carbon footprint through Actionable Net-Zero measures, Bridgeford Group will be hosting an online event here with Australian PassivHaus Association on May 24th, 2023.

In this event Bridgeford Group will shed light on the importance of combining PassivHaus and smart Electrification concepts in building design. The event aims to raise awareness about the potential of these two approaches to significantly reduce the carbon footprint of buildings and contribute to a cleaner energy future.

The PassivHaus Design is a framework that focuses on energy efficient building fabric, high-performance windows and doors, airtightness, heat recovery ventilation and passive solar design that predominantly reduces overall heating and cooling demand of buildings. As governments and organisations are increasingly recognising the importance of energy efficiency in buildings, PassivHaus design principles are slowly being adopted in new buildings to drive the built environment industry towards achieving better sustainability goals.

Electrification, which involves transitioning away from on-site fossil fuel-powered systems and equipment to energy efficient electric alternatives powered by renewable energy sources, is necessary to achieve a giant step towards decarbonisation in the building sector. By combining PassivHaus design with electrification, buildings can significantly reduce their carbon footprint and contribute to the transition to a cleaner energy future.

During the event Bridgeford Group will delve into several key topics related to the combination of Passive House Design and smart Electrification. These topics include:

  • What is Electrification?
  • What are some of the Electrification measures that have been applied within Australia?
  • What have been the observed impacts to energy performance, emissions, and operating cost of a building resulted from different Electrification measures? (through case studies)
  • How Electrification complements PassivHaus design?
  • What are the challenges and opportunities when blending PassivHaus design principles and electrification?

Some of the key learnings from the presentation would include:

  • Definition of Electrification.
  • Being informed about the applied measures of Electrification within Australia, relevant electric technologies, and the associated impacts.
  • Understand the synergy of blending Electrification concepts and PassivHaus design principles in building design.
  • Understand how electrification better enables the achievement of PassivHaus certifications.
